About Porto Santo

The Island of Porto Santo is a h(e)aven of gold and blue, where the pace of
everything is tranquil, inviting relaxation and rest.

Right in the Atlantic Ocean, Porto Santo, 11km long and 6km wide, has been
long dubbed the Golden Island, for its extensive, stunning 9km-long beach of
fine and silky sand, bathed by turquoise waters. The climate in Porto Santo,
mild all year round, with a sea temperature ranging between 17ºC and 22ºC,
makes this island always attractive, even in the winter.

How To Get Here

By plane

The quickest and most convenient way to reach the island is by air, just 15 minutes away. The airline Binter Canarias offers regular flights from Madeira’s Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport to Porto Santo Airport.
Lisbon is about 1.5 hrs away on TAP Air Portugal or Easyjet, Porto via Easyjet.

Several airlines offer seasonal and charter flights from various European cities, such as UK, Germany, Denmark and many others.

By boat

The most popular way of getting to Porto Santo is by ferry Porto Santo Line from Funchal on neighbouring Madeira. The boat usually leaves daily from Funchal (in the harbor, near Loo Rock) at around 8h00, and returns around 18h00, though there are occasional variations according to season, and on Fridays to accommodate weekend traffic.

  • A 9-kilometre golden sand, along with a sea of calm, crystalline waters and pleasant temperatures, placed Porto Santo beach on the map of paradisiacal destinations. Proving this, in 2022, Porto Santo beach was elected the best beach in Europe by the European Best Destinations.

  • This charming town is the main center of activity on the island, with a range of restaurants, shops, and historic landmarks to explore. The town is home to the Christopher Columbus House Museum, which celebrates the life and legacy of the famous explorer.

There is a spectacular mountainside path running along the side of Pico Branco to Terra Chã, and intriguing volcanic structures to be found after a walk up Pico de Ana Ferreira.

  • Once in Porto Santo, you can explore the island on foot, by bicycle, or by car. Being 11 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide, it is relatively easy to move around.

    Walking is, for many, the preferred option. Indeed, for all those who choose our accommodation in the centre of the island, it is not only perfectly feasible to move around on foot, but also extremely enjoyable. In the centre of Porto Santo you will find several cafés, restaurants, supermarkets and shops, all within a short distance of each other.
